Adobe Open Screen Project - Very Cool!

This is really cool news from my geeky side of life. Adobe is initiating the Open Screen project, which “in a nutshell” is geared towards creating and maintaining an open standard across platforms and devices when it comes to content delivery (primarily ’swf’ (flash items) and ‘flv/f4v’ (flash video, which is becoming the DeFacto standard on the web…))
The big bullet items of this news is:

  • Removing restrictions on use of the SWF and FLV/F4V specifications
  • Publishing the device porting layer APIs for Adobe Flash Player
  • Publishing the Adobe Flash® Cast™ protocol and the AMF protocol for robust data services
  • Removing licensing fees – making next major releases of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR for devices free
