TV… Still a junkie I am…

It’s been a crazy year or so and I’ve backed off a little from DVR’ing everything in sight, but there’s still a fair amount of stuff I squeeze into the week. It also goes that percentage-wise, I lean heavy on the funny… That being said, here’s a few bits about a few faves…
COMMUNITY -- NBC

This show kicks off NBC’s Three hour block of Comedy (which only contains 2.5 hours of comedy…I’m talking to you Outsourced…), and week after week is stronger and funnier. Quietly underrated, there’s a bit of perfection that comes out every week. I can’t quite pin it down, but it’s some remarkable balance between the casting, the plot-lines and the way it plays along, into and around stereotypical television premises. Where a show like ‘Family Guy’ -- also hilarious -- bombards and inundates with pop culture references out the wazoo, Community will pick a subtle few and weave them into the story, sometimes overtly (Dungeons & Dragons episode), other times subtle (Abed’s many quick references…). Easily one of my favorite comedies right now…

PORTLANDIA -- IFC

Basically Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein have one of the most hilarious sketch comedies (sadly, it’s only 6 episodes).. The cameo appearances enhance the show greatly, and the loose connection to Portland helps tie it together…(Kyle McLaughlin as the mayor of Portland was fantastic…)

LOUIE -- FX

Louie (currently in between seasons) was by far the best surprise of the past year. Painfully original, so awkward and uncomfortable, and some of the most honest humor ever to hit television…

PARKS AND RECREATION -- NBC

People mostly talk about The Office (losing steam big-time) and 30 Rock (always awesome…), but Parks and Rec is a pretty big heavy hitter on the funny front. Slight modifications in cast have really helped this show grow and thankfully it survived the weird hiatus between mid-seasons… Like Community, its the strength of the ensemble cast here that works… Plus any show that has the Ron Swanson Pyramid of Greatness has to be good…

ARCHER -- FX

Following in the footsteps of it’s FX cousins “It’s Always Sunny” & “The League“, Archer is chock full of non-PC goodness. Archer may just be the most inappropriate spy, but that’s what makes it so damn funny…

MODERN FAMILY -- ABC

I’d be remiss not to mention Modern Family. Even though it’s a mainstream hit, it’s a winner every week…

Honorable Mentions:

Mr. Sunshine -- ABC: One episode so far, but it has some good potential.

Perfect Couples -- NBC: Started watching because of Mary Elizabeth Ellis & Olivia Munn, but Christine Woods steals the show…

Raising Hope -- FOX, How I Met Your Mother -- CBSTraffic Light -- FOX, Episodes- SHOWTIME, Cougar Town -- ABC

A Quick Visit to the Comedy Stylings of Blog Spam…

comedy, observations

WordPress does a fantastic job of keeping the spam away from the blog… It collects and gets deleted much like any decent email service would… But once in a while it’s fun to see the spam comments and chuckle at what these people thought could get through.

Here’s a study in horrible translation to English, as the spam attempts to play itself off as a unique sentence or two, usually some false compliments on how great this website is! (I mean c’mon, I’m not fallin for that – this blog is marginal at best…)

That is definitely a web site really worth using. Youve obtained a terrific cope to say about this topic, and so significantly know-how. I consider that you realize how to produce persons listen to what you have to say, particularly with an issue thats so significant. Im glad to learn this blog. Two big thumbs up, man!

A Lawn-care maintenence spambot hit up my post about Robot Chicken Star Wars…

Your ideas are incredible. Your weblog, not so a great deal. I do not want to disrespect you, just hear me out. Include just a little some thing listed here. What youre expressing is indeed significant itd be a shame if individuals missed it since they were bored to death. May possibly be a video clip or perhaps a website link to something as powerful as the topic. Simply a suggestion.

Sometimes you get to learn a new expression you didn’t know existed…

Dang i thought your blog was killer, gave me a car load of information, i never knew, thanks blogger.

Why the sadface???

thanks!! great post keep writing bro(:

I seem to get a lot updating me on their activities…

I will be going for an interview with a cable assembly manufacturer this Monday. I am excited.

I will be attending an interview with a cryogenic ball valve this Friday. I am nervous.

?????

Hi guys, I am also diagnosed with a form of OCD :s I just have to have my volume on a round number with increments of 5! How silly is that, it is the only thing that I am obseissive about though.

Jar Jar says: me likes your interesting publishing, haha.

When you’re asleep and dreaming about performing calorie-burning activities such as running, jumping and flying, do you burn more calories in reality as opposed to when you’re dreaming about doing something low-impact?

Ok, I am a bit of a English nazi, but felt like I needed to point out that you had a screw up on the 6th sentence.

Erector Set w/Xmas Lights Around It: (You Really Can Find Anything On The Web…)

comedy, observations, websites

(image from phonelosers.org)

Before there was a Jerky Boys, there was Mark Knofler (not the dude from Dire Straits). It was mid 80′s or so when I remember someone having these crazy prank calls on cassette. I have no idea why that memory popped in my head today, but through the magic of the internet (and a google search consisting of 2 simple words – “knofler tape”)…BAM! There is a prank phone call site with a page dedicated to this

Well, I am blown away (it’s always a little weird reliving something from at least 25 years ago…). I remember somebody made me copy of their cassette and I know I made a few and passed ‘em around myself. Basically, this tape of prank phone calls was the 1980′s equivalent of something going “viral”! Back then, viral took a few years, but viral nonetheless… Amazing to me how there’s not that much known about this guy (although he apparently lived in Delaware), yet so many people have heard this tape…

Linwood Erector Set (Click to Play/Download)

Got me thinking as well about the dead art of the prank phone call… How often do you really even answer your phone if you don’t recognize the number or can see that it’s blocked… I wait for the voicemail andif they don’t leave one, it must not have been that important… So those of you old enough to remember, click on through and relive some 80′s glory!!

TweetDeck (following lots & following funny)

comedy, observations, technology

When it comes to all things Twitter I’ve found nothing better than ‘TweetDeck’. At least for the desktop (I’ve begun using TweetDeck for iPhone recently again because I’m now managing more than one Twitter account, but I actually prefer the basic ‘Twitter’ app… But that’s another geek post topic for another time…)

Well, I’m not about to get all techy here and there are about a million reviews of all the twitter desktop clients out there, but the reason for this post is actually more about trying to tackle all the following I’ve been doing lately (spipasucci is following 543 folks already…).  So I guess I’m asking those of you who do quite a bit of following… Got any tips?

With the recent launch of spipmusic (and thus a new twitter feed to manage), I’m gonna try to bump all my music blog & band related follows over to that account. I started messing with lists, but man that’s a pain to keep up with. I could just go on an ‘unfollow’ mission (as many people seem to do with facebook friend “purges”), but I really dig a lot of the stuff I’ve been getting to see lately (especially the funny peoples – there’s a crapton of funny stuff flying by all day…)

So if ya have any tips or suggestions, feel free to throw me a comment… Also, since it’s a friday and I don’t usually do the #ff (follow friday) thing, here’s some of that previously mentioned “crapton” of funny worth checking out…

@tinaisall, @thesulk, @DamienFahey, @plasticdeer, @bazecraze, @BoweKnows, @JessCallMeJaydi, @kristygee, @pomranz, @yoyoha, @bubblebathos,@MrsRupertPupkin, @TheJamieLee, @ChelseaVPeretti, @jennyslate25, @TheSteveAgee, @amyschumer, @jennyandteets, @colinkane, @kellyoxford, @michaelaWat, @robhuebel, @AmberTozer, @KrystalGibbon, @nickkroll, @robdelaney, @jordanrubin, @paulscheer, @morgan_murphy, ….. to name a few (cuz this is exhausting so I’m not listing anymore so get over it… you’ll have to find others on your own…)

Big Sunday on Showtime…

comedy, TV, VIDEO

A Quick Blurb From the TV Junkie in me…

Ready to fire up the DVR for Sunday… First, it’s the return of one of my absolute favorite shows “Californication“. I think I’ve posted about it before. Solid laughs and drama every week and one of the best pay cable shows out there…

Then the premiere of 2 new shows that I think may really push Showtime above HBO in terms of fantastic original programming… “Episodes” is getting some really good buzz so far and looks like a great companion to Californication as far as another brash look at the entertainment business…Synopsis: Husband and wife writing team Sean and Beverly can’t wait to bring their successful British television series across the pond to make it big in America. But in true Hollywood fashion, it quickly becomes a laughable, clichéd sitcom – starring none other than Matt LeBlanc. Matt not only messes with their beloved show, he rocks the foundation of their relationship. So now, even if they survive the absurdity of show business, will their marriage survive Matt LeBlanc?
Last there’s “Shameless“, a show that looks to have some serious undertones mixed with some heavy comedy powered by some serious casting… Synopsis: Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, spirited and independent kids, who without him would be… perhaps better off. The brilliant William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum star in this wildly engaging and fearlessly twisted new Showtime Original Series. The Gallaghers may not have much in the way of money or rules, but they know who they are — and they’re absolutely, wildly, unapologetically SHAMELESS.

Not a whole lot to say except that if you haven’t watched the latest Robot Chicken Star Wars (an hour long episode that is absolutely “wizard” by the way), then now you have no excuse… Throw in commentary and interactive features and I’m not understanding why you haven’t stopped reading this and clicked the link already to start enjoying your RC experience in its fullest!

Relive The Glory… “Nostalgia Critic reviews Star Wars Christmas”

comedy, observations, TV

I haven’t sat through this in its entirety and there’s already a little bit that’s annoying about the guy reviewing and commenting through this, but since the actual special hasn’t re-aired EVER, and I was but a teeny toddler last time I saw it, I can deal with his banter…
