American Perspective From Japan (or-”How To Get More Depth From Iron Chef”)
A Good friend of mine has been living & teaching in Oyodo, Japan for the better part of a year and a half and has a blog relaying his thoughts and insights from across the Pacific. His latest post gets into some of the nitty gritty behind the early days of Iron Chef (The Japanese/Original version) as well as his love of Sushi. Being also of the “Sushi Enjoyers”, I found it yet another great read and can’t wait to watch “Sushi Battle”.
It made me think back to my first days eating sushi and how different it was perceived in our culture back in the early 90’s (at least in my memory). For me and my wife, it not only opened a door to some interesting learning (ie: Terri’s teaching of some tips and tricks passed down to her on how to make the rice, rolls, etc…), but to be relatively fearless of the foods of other cultures… Most specifically Indian food. There’s a fantastic Indian restaurant just up the road, and if it wasn’t 6:00a.m., I think I’d head there right now.
Check out Matt’s “Sushi Perspective” and more here…

The House At Westbrook River
Dug up a short silent flick from the early 1900’s. It’s the touching tale of a group of young kids in a house at Westbrook River. There’s dancing, fighting, action and adventure.

A Tradition Returns… Elevator Scare…
Okay, I wasn’t here when this tradition started, but apparently every Halloween party here entails an end of day “ElevatorScare-A-Thon Extravaganza” (or something like that…). The 17 other people in the building can possibly fall victim to an unexpected stop on the second floor followed by the door opening to the screams of ‘tens’ of peoples…. Actually, it was pretty funny…

1 Year In Clevesburgh…

Yup. One year ago today I started my job in Cleveland and the ball has been rolling ever since. Yea, I know there’s another famous thing about this day, but right now I’m just focused on the fact that a year has gone by quicker than any year has gone by before. i hope that is not a pptern (though I suspect it is…)
Quick year synopsis (i.e.- in a nutshell…)
Awesome Vacation, New Temporary digs followed by new permanent digs, old & new friends, somebody jumped from 1st to 2nd grade, wife and life in good shape, Kewl job, much yardwork ahead, Browns questionable at best but Cavs & Indians were/are on a roll, the Sopranos ended, some friends I didn’t see enough (or at all…) and I got to shovel snow….

Al & McBeam… First Encounter

It was a chance encounter that day. Al was on his way to return his scorecard at the “Black & Gold Ye Olde Putt Putt”, when a large yellow object caught his eye. Al thought…”Hmmmm… Interesting”. Steely McBeam muscled by, muttering under his breath…”I’m Steely… I’m Steely… I’m Steely McBeam!”… Al realized he had just had a run in with the One and Only “Steely McBeam”! The mascot to save a franchise and sure to inspire a triumphant season for all the McBeamers everywhere!

Vacation Photos -Six… Finale’!

The last of the pics brings us some shots of the room at the condo, more kids on the beach fun (and somecartwheels, and the last evening where we spent an hour with the kids burning off boxes and boxes of sparklers, as I tried to take goofy long-exposure photos. Click the image to the left (or here) to launch the photos..
