TweetDeck (following lots & following funny)

comedy, observations, technology

When it comes to all things Twitter I’ve found nothing better than ‘TweetDeck’. At least for the desktop (I’ve begun using TweetDeck for iPhone recently again because I’m now managing more than one Twitter account, but I actually prefer the basic ‘Twitter’ app… But that’s another geek post topic for another time…)

Well, I’m not about to get all techy here and there are about a million reviews of all the twitter desktop clients out there, but the reason for this post is actually more about trying to tackle all the following I’ve been doing lately (spipasucci is following 543 folks already…).  So I guess I’m asking those of you who do quite a bit of following… Got any tips?

With the recent launch of spipmusic (and thus a new twitter feed to manage), I’m gonna try to bump all my music blog & band related follows over to that account. I started messing with lists, but man that’s a pain to keep up with. I could just go on an ‘unfollow’ mission (as many people seem to do with facebook friend “purges”), but I really dig a lot of the stuff I’ve been getting to see lately (especially the funny peoples – there’s a crapton of funny stuff flying by all day…)

So if ya have any tips or suggestions, feel free to throw me a comment… Also, since it’s a friday and I don’t usually do the #ff (follow friday) thing, here’s some of that previously mentioned “crapton” of funny worth checking out…

@tinaisall, @thesulk, @DamienFahey, @plasticdeer, @bazecraze, @BoweKnows, @JessCallMeJaydi, @kristygee, @pomranz, @yoyoha, @bubblebathos,@MrsRupertPupkin, @TheJamieLee, @ChelseaVPeretti, @jennyslate25, @TheSteveAgee, @amyschumer, @jennyandteets, @colinkane, @kellyoxford, @michaelaWat, @robhuebel, @AmberTozer, @KrystalGibbon, @nickkroll, @robdelaney, @jordanrubin, @paulscheer, @morgan_murphy, ….. to name a few (cuz this is exhausting so I’m not listing anymore so get over it… you’ll have to find others on your own…)

Interesting Challenge from ‘WordPress’…”Post something every day”

observations, websites

The Daily Post at WordPress.com | Post something every day.

I know it’s 4 days into the new year, but thanks to a Mashable, I think I’d like to participate in this challenge. Basically, WordPress is throwing out the idea that through some helpful inspiration and the act of browsing other blogs, we can find it in us to ourselves get a post a day up for 2011 (or a post a week if you’re not feeling quite as adventurous…)

It’s been a long standing goal of mine to post everyday, and I’ve failed miserably (as I’m sure a huge percentage of bloggers do…). I mean, sure, I could slap a link up every day to some random You Tube video or funny pic, but to me that now is more of a thing for facebook and occasionally twitter (the immediacy and the quickness). A blog post should (hopefully) at least contain a paragraph or two of some sort of original thought, no? (and I’m not calling anyone out or even implying in the least that I don’t and won’t occasionally post something with no thought whatsoever…). My first step to try to get posting more regularly was to branch off this blog with my music blog - spipmusic.com. And so far that experiment has worked… Having a more focused idea for content has really helped (I think I’ve only missed a few days since launch, but have a few double post days to make up for it…).

There’s the photoblog as well, but that doesn’t really count to me as “blogging”. I mean I’m spending all of 30 seconds uploading something from my phone. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy that and hopefully folks might enjoy a cool photo here and there. Someday I hope to pursue this photography bug, but baby steps for now…

So I guess the real issue is what does spipasucci.com become? I really like the recent growth of Cleveland based blogs…(happyincle, cleveland’s a plum, 27 Dresses In Cleveland, Clevedads, WhyCle? ) Do I try harder to push content on the city I love? What about my long standing aspirations to get back into video work (particularly editing and motion graphics). There’s fantastic sites out there and maybe someday I’ll have generated enough of my own stuff to make that worthwhile… Or just stick with what spipasucci.com has been so far – a mish-mash of content that interests me – cool videos, tv/movie observations, Cleveland tidbits and other weirdness?

That decision will probably take some time. But for now I am truly going to attempt to get a post a day done for this and the music blog, and see where it leads me. I’m hoping to branch out and meet some folks through these crazy interwebz, and maybe in turn expose a few people along the way to something interesting they hadn’t seen…

Best Flick of 2010 – Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

movies, observations, Very Cool!, VIDEO

Well it took until just a few days left in 2010, but I’ve just finished watching the best movie of the year – hands down… Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

This movie has just about everything you can ask for in a movie. Great story, fantastic soundtrack, a cohesive cast, crazy action, hilarity… the list goes on. But above all, the motion graphics and cinematography absolutely blew me away (and I was watching on a crappy old-school 32 inch tube TV…).

I won’t go into the history and backstory of the whole Scott Pilgrim thing aside from mentioning it’s origins as a comic book… With that said, it’s this comic background that is the driving force behind all the subtle and overt uses of crazy motion graphics and special effects… The movie is filled with it, but because of the way its shot and the way the story flows, it’s stunningly not distracting at all.

Did I mention the movie has a “Bass Battle”?  How can you go wrong with that? Actually, this little clip along with the trailer (below) is a great example of the integration of the motion graphics and the style with which this movie is put together and paced…

The editing is fantastic. The cuts and transitions (of which the variety was insane) also really helped to fill in and push the energy and flow the story needed. This is a movie I’ll be rewatching for sure, and at some point I’d love to break it down and really take a deeper look at scenes/cuts/colors/effects/etc. I know I’m rambling a bunch of complimentary adjectives together, but fresh off watching it, there’s not much more I can say besides grab the DVD or hit it up On Demand at your earliest convenience….

Relive The Glory… “Nostalgia Critic reviews Star Wars Christmas”

comedy, observations, TV

I haven’t sat through this in its entirety and there’s already a little bit that’s annoying about the guy reviewing and commenting through this, but since the actual special hasn’t re-aired EVER, and I was but a teeny toddler last time I saw it, I can deal with his banter…

Working on a music blog….

observations, websites

Much like the title says, I’m working on a music blog… I know there are a million and 1 music blogs already, and mine will be another… Actually tho, I miss the old days of sharing / finding music through hanging with friends and someone helped me figure out that this idea of reconnecting with old friends via sharing music with them might be the way to go. Hope to launch this weekend after I get a few more posts in there and stuff (it needs some content ya know…)…

What does that mean for this blog? Prolly not much… This for now will be the same old mish mash of stuff… I think spipasucci mixes will still live here for now and I’m sure I’ll find some other drivel…

Follow a little Adventure in Hong Kong – beerandclothing

beerandclothing.

Some great stuff coming from the beerandclothing blog. Follow along as Ruthless spends some time in Hong Kong, documenting her ‘finds’ along the way (and apparently lots of nail polish and tights?)…
