• Smellaphone (ie: Smells Like Telephone)

Had tried uploading this to You Tube many months ago and it wouldn’t go through. Figured after waiting a while I’d give it another shot. Mashed up the Lady Gaga Telephone video with Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit. I think it came out pretty well… Done completely in Sony Vegas…

    ——--grrrrr——-
Well, that only lasted a day. Thanks UMG for being a bummer.

  • A Must See!! – An Open Source Documentary Film about Copyright

Welcome to Open Source Cinema | Open Source Cinema – An Open Source Documentary Film about Copyright.

So I just finished watching the absolutely brilliant and fascinating documentary RIP: A Remix Manifesto… Starting off with Girl Talk and cycling through the 20th Century of American pop culture in regards to copyright, free use and mashup culture, this documentary is fantastic. There’s some great arguments about how copyright changes in the US have affected art and culture growth, and how the internet and technology have played a part in not only changing that, but facilitating a boom in creativity unmatched in our lifetime…

This Open Source Cinema site is one remarkable example (created by the filmmaker) to further the points made in the doc. Here, people are encouraged to upload their own open source video for use by others, and to remix the materials already here, including the footage from the documentary to make it an ever growing and changing thing…

There’s also some fascinating bits in the doc on how Brazil as a country has revolutionized “remix” ideals not only in art and culture but in medicine and science… There’s a ton of stuff about the effects of the RIAA in the past decade or so and the stifling and misguided nature of their efforts of control…

Cooler still, you can watch the entire thing (as well as remix it yourself) on the open source cinema site… Check it out!

  • You Tube Play – Creative Video via Guggenheim

Very interesting concept and a pretty exciting idea… As I am a sucker for digital media in any way, this could be a pretty fascinating look at some hugely creative video stuff… I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this and got to get the gears moving in my head to maybe come up with something to submit myself. I’ve needed an excuse to really dive back into digital video as a creative expression in my free time and this could easily be the nudge…

Definitely worth checking out the site and keeping an eye on it… Looks like the videos will be reviewed by judges and viewable by the public later in the year…

  • You Don’t Have To Be Afraid… Kaki King

So I’ve literally just listened to this song like 3 times in a row (I never do that…!). I couldn’t find the album version on You Tube anywhere, but this live version has pretty good audio and does it justice…
Don’t know a whole lot about Kaki King but here’s some links. Apparently there’s a new album. This track is from 2006 I believe…

This show may be 20 years old (holy hell that’s a long time ago…), but this piece gives it a fresh new coat of paint… “This Pie’s so good it is a crime…!”

  • Nice GMPD Intro – “Gil Mantera’s Party Dream will change your life”

Gil Mantera’s Party Dream will change your life.

Nice write up with accompanied video snippets of Youngstown’s infamous GMPD… I was at the mentioned Grog Shop appearance and it was quite a spectacle..

  • Aleatoare – An Experiment In Random Video

    Aleatoare
A little “work-In-Progress” flash/video experiment I’ve been plugging away at for a bit. Needs some fine tuning, but the plan is for something with tons of randomized video snippets displaying with some randomly chosen audio bed for what I hope is at least a slightly intriguing little waste of time viewing moment… Geeky ingredients include: Randomized video array from xml file, random application of the marvelous gsTween color and blur filters, and lots of 2 – 5 second bits exported from Sony Vegas… Moving forward I hope to add/swap in more video and audio, possible interactivity might be ability to change the music bed or toggle page background pic… Any thoughts??
