[adult swim] : IVC – Robot Chicken – Star Wars Episode III.

Not a whole lot to say except that if you haven’t watched the latest Robot Chicken Star Wars (an hour long episode that is absolutely “wizard” by the way), then now you have no excuse… Throw in commentary and interactive features and I’m not understanding why you haven’t stopped reading this and clicked the link already to start enjoying your RC experience in its fullest!

Warpaint – Stars

music, observations, Very Cool!, VIDEO

Yea, I’m still a sucker for these female vocal bands, they get me every time. Heard this for the first time about 15 minutes ago and keep listening over and over… Never heard of Warpaint before but if the song and video are any indication, I’m all in… Something in the first half of the song feels a little early dark-wave to me but it kind of morphs and changes by the end… The video is a fantastic mix of playfulness (that seems to contrast the tone of the song) and eerie (in a subtle way) visuals…

As expected you can add them to the list of bands NOT coming to Cleveland anytime soon…

Guell – An After Effects Experiment

Guell from Dean Bianchi on Vimeo.

Further exploring some stuff in After Effects, I decided to take some photos and some footage and some particles and flow them together… Set to the song Guell by near the parenthesis

Smellaphone (ie: Smells Like Telephone)

music, spipasucciMix, VIDEO

Had tried uploading this to You Tube many months ago and it wouldn’t go through. Figured after waiting a while I’d give it another shot. Mashed up the Lady Gaga Telephone video with Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit. I think it came out pretty well… Done completely in Sony Vegas…

——–grrrrr——-
Well, that only lasted a day. Thanks UMG for being a bummer.

A Must See!! – An Open Source Documentary Film about Copyright

movies, observations, Very Cool!, VIDEO, websites

Welcome to Open Source Cinema | Open Source Cinema – An Open Source Documentary Film about Copyright.

So I just finished watching the absolutely brilliant and fascinating documentary RIP: A Remix Manifesto… Starting off with Girl Talk and cycling through the 20th Century of American pop culture in regards to copyright, free use and mashup culture, this documentary is fantastic. There’s some great arguments about how copyright changes in the US have affected art and culture growth, and how the internet and technology have played a part in not only changing that, but facilitating a boom in creativity unmatched in our lifetime…

This Open Source Cinema site is one remarkable example (created by the filmmaker) to further the points made in the doc. Here, people are encouraged to upload their own open source video for use by others, and to remix the materials already here, including the footage from the documentary to make it an ever growing and changing thing…

There’s also some fascinating bits in the doc on how Brazil as a country has revolutionized “remix” ideals not only in art and culture but in medicine and science… There’s a ton of stuff about the effects of the RIAA in the past decade or so and the stifling and misguided nature of their efforts of control…

Cooler still, you can watch the entire thing (as well as remix it yourself) on the open source cinema site… Check it out!

You Tube Play – Creative Video via Guggenheim

Very Cool!, VIDEO, websites

Very interesting concept and a pretty exciting idea… As I am a sucker for digital media in any way, this could be a pretty fascinating look at some hugely creative video stuff… I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this and got to get the gears moving in my head to maybe come up with something to submit myself. I’ve needed an excuse to really dive back into digital video as a creative expression in my free time and this could easily be the nudge…

Definitely worth checking out the site and keeping an eye on it… Looks like the videos will be reviewed by judges and viewable by the public later in the year…
