Reunions and Old Memories…

observations

Received an email this morning about my upcoming High School Reunion. Needless to say it puts you in a strange frame of mind when your 20 year reunion is steadily approaching. Of course there’s all the normal feelings (“Wow, can’t believe it’s been that long…”, and “I wonder what ever happened to so and so…”). I’ve got to say it was pretty neat to hear from some old friends and acquaintances throughout the day.
But then I started thinking about friends I’d lost touch with. Started reflecting on where I’m at in life verses where I might have thought I’d be at this point. Of course, I was at work, so this wasn’t exactly the best frame of mind to be in for writing some actionscript for a flash piece I’m working on…
Being a computer geek at heart, I started thinking about how different things are in regards to technology. There was no internet (at least exposed to an 18 year old back in the late 80′s). I was just making the transition from buying albums to buying those ‘new-fangled’ CD’s. I enjoyed all 30 of our cable channels. Had to use phone-books and pay phones.

Found Frog
Originally uploaded by Spip A. Succi

Memorial Day Weekend, 2007. The kids found a frog and the usual ‘found frog’ excitement ensued. I think they gave it a name, though I can’t recall what it was. Each kid had to hold the frog a number of times, and I’m sure the frog was thrilled by this. Hey… It may have even been a toad. I’m not sure. You’d have thought the kids found a pot of gold.

Mac to PC to Mac to PC

technology

When my world of computers began (back in the early 90′s…before everyone received daily AOL CD’s in the mail and before it took less than 2 hours to download a photo), I bought my first computer…a Mac clone (remember those?) Yes, I loved my Starmax with it’s huge 2gb hard drive and speedy 14.4 modem. I taught myself a little Photoshop (version 3 back then), and learned a little bit about audio editing.

Things were fantastic. And I was a Mac junkie! My subscription to Macworld couldn’t arrive soon enough, and I soaked up the In’s & Out’s of System 7 and OS 8 like a sponge. I got my first computer job editing powerpoint files and tweaking presentations and had the sorry experience of occasionally having to work on the Windows 3.1 machine.Yikes! That was a pain! Crashes, confusing menus, sluggish performance…the whole deal was tough. I had drunk the Mac Kool Aid and was a devotee to the end!

Lost & The Season Finales

TV

First off, I’ve got to hand it to the writers of Lost. They’ve really brought back the elements of fascination and mystery that got so many people hooked during the first season. Of all the season ending shows over the past few weeks (and we watched way too many of them), I’d give the top prize to Lost. Not only from the perspective of the show’s plot, which left us hanging with just the right amount of old questions answered and new questions raised; but also gave some new twists that felt less contrived than much of this past season had. I think the show seemed to lose some steam during it’s hiatus, and a lot of the time Jack, Kate and Sawyer were with the Others felt slow moving and a little out of sorts. Pulling up the final episode with a ‘flash-forward’ was a nice touch (even though Jack mentioning his Father felt a little forced).

A New Beginning…

observations

So it seems it is time to do something new with spipasucci.com. Maybe it’s a sense of reflection, maybe it’s feeling a little older, maybe it’s the need to expound and ramble on the day to day things that happen to a mid-30′s father/husband/geek. We shall see…

So that being said, over the next few days the final touches on the new ‘spipasucci.com’ will be complete and the new site will be underway. Who knows? Maybe someday more than 6 people will read one of my babbles. Perhaps my take on the latest Nine Inch Nails album will pique someones interest. Maybe my spin on the season finale of How I Met Your Mother would be so controversial as to incite madness among 10 to 15 people across the globe…Quite possibly this will simply be an exercise in advanced typing…

Hmmmmmm…
