Boxee Blog- The Boxee Beta.

A great overview of what was presented tonight on the Boxee Beta release. I watched most of the webcast and it seems like some huge improvements are coming. I’ve been using the windows alpha for a few months now and its been great. A little buggy at times, but there’s some fantastic stuff in there…

Big changes highlighted are the switch from OpenGL to DirectX and the upgrade to DXVA & Flash Player 10… I really dug the 2 apps presented by some grad students in New York that really show the social media/internet integration into media viewing. One grabs actor/music information from any scene you’re veiwing and cross references it with wikipedia, you tube, etc for more info… Another pulls playlists dynamically from twitter trends, news feeds and most popular on google to give you as current a playlist of video you could ask for…

They’ve also revamped a lot of the menus and made bookmarking and sharing 1000 times easier. Looks like videos will remember their position and moving forward Boxee will take full advantage of HD video that can be gotten from the web. Lots of integration Netflix and the big social players (facebook, Twitter, etc…). Just an all around sweet Media Center looking to be that much sweeter…
